Earl Monroe
Legacy Trustee
A transcendent superstar, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe dazzled fans and teammates alike with his on-court prowess. The innovative playmaker drew crowds at each stage of his career, whether fans witnessed him in Philadelphia high school gyms, at Winston Salem State, or with the Baltimore Bullets and New York Knicks. “Slick and always exciting,” the legendary Sports Illustrated writer Frank Deford said of Monroe. “The Pearl” led the Knicks to their last championship season in 1973 and is a member of the National Basketball Hall of Fame and one of the Top 60 Players in NBA history.
Monroe’s legacy extends beyond the hardwood. He continues to preach the importance of education and has been involved in various community affairs programs, including the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Health, the Crown Heights Youth Collective and the Literary Assistance Fund. Additionally, for his extensive humanitarian work, he has received many honors, including the Harlem Professionals Inspiration Award, Most Outstanding Model for American Youth, and the Big Apple Sportsman of the Year. In 2008, Earl Monroe was awarded a Peabody for producing the four-hour documentary, Black Magic.
Dan Klores

Dan Klores is a Brooklyn-born, award-winning filmmaker and playwright, and founder of a public relations/integrated marketing and crisis communications firm, Dan Klores Communications (DKC). DKC evolved into the fastest growing independent firm in the nation with offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Miami.
Klores’ celebrated documentaries and films—four of which debuted at Sundance Film Festival—include The Boys of Second Street Park, Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story, Viva Baseball, and Basketball: A Love Story. He received the 2008 Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary for Crazy Love and a Peabody Award for his film Black Magic. In addition to his cinematic work, Klores authored Basketball: A Love Story with Jackie MacMullan and Roundball Culture: South Carolina Basketball. His numerous columns, articles, and essays have been featured in the New York Times, Esquire, New York Magazine, The Village Voice, Huffington Post, The Undefeated, The Ringer, New York Post, New York Daily News, Southern Exposure, and Grantland.
David Stern
Legacy Trustee (In Memoriam)
David Stern served as commissioner of the National Basketball Association from 1984 to 2014. Prior to his tenure as the longest-serving Commissioner in the history of North American sports, Stern first joined the NBA as a general counsel in 1978. In his 30 years of leadership, Stern brought the league and the game itself to unprecedented levels of financial success and global exposure. Choosing to market the sport around the star power of the league’s talented players, Stern oversaw the NBA’s rise to the forefront of American popular culture during the 80’s and 90’s, while also expanding its popularity internationally. Today, the league holds offices in 12 cities outside the U.S. and broadcasts to over 200 territories in 40 languages. Alongside the growth of the NBA, Stern also helped found the WNBA and NBA G League.
Stern was born in New York City, where he also attended Columbia University Law School after graduating from Rutgers University. He is a member of both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as well as the FIBA Hall of Fame. He has been recognized across America’s most esteemed institutions, such as Harvard and Yale Universities as well as the NAACP, for his contributions to African-American culture as well as his superb executive leadership. Following his retirement as Commissioner, Stern served as an advisor to various investment banks, venture capital firms and consultancies, in addition to directly investing in technology and sports startups. Stern died in January 2020, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dianne, and his two sons Eric and Andrew.

Brandon Corley
Executive Director
Brandon Corley comes to Earl Monroe as the Co-Founder and former Academic Director for South Bronx Community Charter High School. He was born and raised in Chicago and represents the Englewood community of Chicago’s Southside with great pride. Brandon was a high school mathematics teacher for many years before becoming a school leader, working in Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York City. Brandon has worked with the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools® program since 2004 in various capacities. His role as co-founder and Project Director of sites in Chicago, Milwaukee, New Orleans, and Mt Vernon, NY, his time as a national trainer, and his work planning regular youth mobilizations, conferences and events has earned him recognition amongst his peers. He is a graduate of Chicago State University with a BS in Mathematics/Secondary Education and earned a MS in Educational Leadership from Baruch College. Brandon is married to his best friend, Aja, and they have two children together.

Barry Watkins
Barry Watkins is a well-respected communications executive with more than 35 years experience working in the sports, media, entertainment, technology and nonprofit industries. He served as the chief communications officer for The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG) for over two decades overseeing all public relations for some of the world’s most iconic venues and sports and entertainment brands. Today, Barry is CEO of Clairvoyant Media Strategies and a highly sought after strategic communications advisor providing his unique insight and guidance to top companies and individuals across the nation.
Barry also currently serves as chairman of the Garden of Dreams Foundation, a position he maintained following stepping down as chief communications officer of MSG in November of 2017 and sits on the Board of Directors for the Vector Group Ltd (NYSE: VGR).
Howard Wolfson
Senior Advisor to Mike Bloomberg (2014-present); Education Lead at Bloomberg Philanthropies (2014 – present); New York City Deputy Mayor for Government Affairs and Communications (2010-2013); Communications Director of Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign; Prominent Political Strategist.
Mr. Wolfson directs Bloomberg Philanthropies’ education program, which focuses on strengthening educational leadership and advancing education reform policies in communities across the United States.
Additionally, as Bloomberg’s senior political advisor, Wolfson runs the former New York City Mayor’s Independence USA SuperPAC and advises him on politics and communication. Through the PAC, Wolfson led a successful $110M effort to help flip control of the U.S. House of Representatives for Democrats in the 2018 midterms – electing 21 of the 24 candidates supported by Independence USA.
From 2010-2013, Wolfson was the New York City Deputy Mayor for Government Affairs and Communications, overseeing local, state and federal government relations, in addition to helping craft the Bloomberg Administration's overall communications strategy.
Known as the “architect of Hillary Clinton’s 2000 Senate victory,” Wolfson was the communications director for her history-making run for the presidency in 2008. He has worked in and out of government, serving as Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Nita Lowey, as the Executive Director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Wolfson has worked on campaigns at every level of government, advising Charles Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Andrew Cuomo, among others.
Wolfson, a New York native, graduated from the University of Chicago and received a Master’s in history from Duke University. He serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics and the American Theatre Wing.
Keith L.T. Wright
Keith L.T. Wright is the Director of Strategic Planning at Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP and focuses on assisting clients in their long-range strategic planning goals. Mr. Wight joined DHC after serving 23 years in the New York State Assembly, having chaired such committees as Housing Election Law, Social Services, and Labor. His work on Equal Economic Opportunity and Human Rights subcommittee sought protections for domestic workers and created additional benefits for senior citizens.
Gary Zarr
Gary Zarr is a recognized leader in public relations and marketing communications with decades of experience in government and the private and nonprofit sectors. He founded GZ&A, a full-service communications and marketing agency carving a unique niche at the intersection of corporations, philanthropies, and consumers. He also co-founded and led Phil & Co., a communications and marketing agency. He has held senior executive positions at the National Basketball Association (NBA), the American Museum of Natural History, Howard Rubenstein & Associates, Battery Park City Authority, and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.
A graduate of Stuyvesant High School in New York City, he has a BA and MA from New York University and has served on numerous boards of directors and advisory groups, including the Oxford Literary Festival, the Municipal Art Society, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Alliance for the Arts, Classroom Inc., and Corpus Christi College at Cambridge University.
